Pour milk into a medium saucepan and heat over medium heat. Make sure the milk doesn’t boil over. For one cup of milk (one serving), use three full teaspoons of semolina and one full teaspoon of sugar. Add salt and mix all ingredients well to reduce the risk of lumps.

When the milk starts to boil, reduce the heat to low and pour in the semolina in a thin stream, stirring constantly. Make sure the stream is thin and even to avoid lumps. Pour the semolina into the whirlpool formed by stirring next to the spoon.

After adding all the semolina, mix well and cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly, until the porridge thickens. Turn off the heat and let it sit covered for 5–10 minutes.

Before serving, add shredded coconut and vanilla sugar to the porridge.
